Unfinished Objects (UFOs)

While I like the "UFO" acronym...cute...I think of these as Unfinished Projects since mine are usually full size quilts. Ha!

Here is a photo of "most" of mine. Honestly, I need more blue boxes...and they are on order at Amazon. I get the 12x4x9 size (in case you are interested). They hold most quilts but you will see that three of these projects on the top row needed larger containers.

I like to put labels on these so I know what they are ("if I remember them by name") rather than dig through a bunch of stuff. Plus, these are stacked on a little shelf right in the hall...on the way to the bathroom...so I MUST see them multiple times a day.

Can you have too many projects not done? Yes, probably so...as one of my quilts (not here but stored in my hopechest) needs to be finished hand quilted...since the 80's. Yep, I went there...admitted that I am so far from being done with a quilt.

Over time, I seem to often loose interest in a project; or more correctly I seem to push it aside because another project had caught my interest. Guess I might have a bit of blackbird in me...always attracted to shiny objects. Or is that a different bird...it was discussed on "To Kill A Mocking Bird" but I just remember that the bird was black.

I digress. Anyhow, wondering how other folks organize their unfinished projects?

Hi Ho, Hi Ho, ....

I'm trying to sing a happy tune, but it's getting harder and harder...let me just share what's been happening around hear of late!
First, my Dear Daughter (DD) decided to move out of the house I own...where she has been "house sitting" for the past six years...to move into another house with her boyfriend of two years. They will be about an hour away. The move will help the BF out, as it is his family home...and his grandmother can no longer live there alone. Long story...for another time perhaps. Bottom line...DD...and my darling Aidan will be an hour away from me. Right now, Aidan is still in school while DD gets all the paperwork shuffle completed with the schools. (Yes, she has waited until the last minute).
Second, DD has quit her job...this was back in the late fall. She wanted to "take a break", and had planned on going back to work after the New Years. (Yes, she is an optimist).
Third, DD went roller skating two weeks ago...fell...and hurt her hip. X-ray this week...and she has shattered a tiny bone at the base of her spine, next to her tailbone. So, is sitting on an inflated donut and getting little sleep. Therefore, no job hunting...for a while probably...AND, no moving since she can not lift. She can not even bend over to fill/empty a dishwasher. (Prayers for her health appreciated).
Fourth, my Dear Brother-in-Law (DBIL) lost his father to heart disease last autumn. His mother is having a real hard time making ends meet...and has been not getting her medications because of the cost. So, I agreed to let her live in the house ...and she needs to move in before 1 February. Which means...it needs to be cleared of furniture and stuff, cleaned, and some painting and small maintenance jobs done! Yikes!

So....I'm in the process of packing up my daughter's things with the help of my Wonderful SIL, Tracy!
And...since everything except the bed at the house is mine...it all has to go somewhere! DD does not need or want much of it as her new house is fully furnished with EVERYTHING. Of course, even so, there is still a TON of personal items, shoes, clothes, toys, and stuff that is going with her anyway. So far, about five pickup loads...and we are just now seeing the light at the end of that tunnel!
Some more furniture moves out today...then she has still to figure out how to get her king size bed moved...another adventure for sure.

AND, then we get to clean (oh and repaint the living room...you should see this color...yuck!)
So....please send me some strength...physical and mental help is appreciated!
Hugs! If you aren't doing anything...come on over...I've got plenty of tasks you can manage. Have a New Year's resolution to exercise more? I've got just the ticket!!

I'll try to get some actual photos for you today...but just know, that every room in my own apartment is being reorganized (did the bedroom and laundry room yesterday...so 3 dressers could be added to that space). Working on the living room area this morning so a long dresser can go in there...in comes up from Mothers...cause she is getting my double-recliner from the house.
It's all a domino effect!

I'm Collecting Toilet Paper Rolls...

Okay, a few things...

1) Don't sent me yours...I'm sure to collect enough all on my own. Thanks.
2) Yes, I am weird...and believe me I already know that...so please don't remind me, cause reminders just give my muse something to talk about..and she already has enough to wag her tongue about.
3) The really strange thing is...I woke up from a little nap with THIS idea...yes, I know...this is what my brain thinks of when I'm sleeping! How scarey is THAT!
Here is the newly designed paper roll...now with a piece of contact paper attached...and beautiful silk ribbon! See the tub of ribbon that needs organizing...THIS will be my method.
And, in case you are wondering how long this will take...I also collect cardboard sleeves from wrapping paper and paper towels. Yes, it is true...I am truly mad!
Wahaahaahhahah!
Do you use old cardboard sleeves for anything?
Just wondering...as I might have a lot and need to do something with them?
No, I'm not going to show you my gift wrapping rolls in the hall closet...just imagine them....hugs!

Things to Do

I don't do New Years resolutions...they have just been a recipe for failure in years past.
But, I do sometimes have to create "to-do lists" to keep me on track. Okay, nothing really keeps me on track...I just keep plowing ahead...
and my muze wakes me in the middle of the night at times...when I have forgotten a timeline or promise. So far, she is pretty good at poking me until I wake up and remember what has to be done! But, as I get older...she seems to be getting a little less proficient at remembering to remind me before Panic Time sets it. I'm really concerned that she might become forgetful...hence more To-Do Lists are needed.
Wish us both luck in the coming year!
I posted my current To-Do List on the side bar...and will update as time permits. If I have promised you something...and my muze has forgotten it...please remind her...so I can add it to the list.
Hugs!

Organization

Wow...that's a topic we could talk about all day!

But, just wanted to share one of my very favorite organization tools.....dresser drawers or bureaus...or whatever name you have for them.

I use several throughout my kitchen and sewing room. Since I live in a very tiny apartment...my sewing stuff is almost in every room!

Here's an old dresser that I just got from my sister, Rita...who does painted wood. I really liked the shallow drawers. At first, I thought it would be great for my laces...but then thought that perhaps I could finally get all the sizes of embroidery fibers and ribbons/trim organized.

Well, it isn't all in there...but the majority is!! ROFL...maybe I could get her to find a couple of more for me!

So, when you are thinking of organizing your sewing room...look for discount dressers! They are great for holding projects if the drawers are deep. They are super for holding supplies if the drawers are shallow. And, you can stack little clear containers on top for even more use!

Anyone else use dresser drawers to store their supplies?

Oh, and my baby..."Buddy" had to get in the photo as well. "What ya doing Mom?...is that food?"
